Wikivietlit launches at VNLP website

We have launched wikiviet lit at the VNLP website. Click on the logo at left, or the one at the VNLP homepage, or go directly to www.vietnamlit.org/wiki.

Wikivietlit is a wiki, a user-written web-based encyclopedia, like the popular Wikipedia. All are free to read the articles, and anyone who registers may contribute new articles or revise old ones.

We already have more than 100 articles on Vietnamese authors. Editor Linh Dinh and Wikivietlit Fellow Hai-Dang Phan have knocked themselves out to launch the wiki with a solid basis in Vietnamese literature.

Articles already written include Nguyen Huy Thiep, Duong Thu Huong, Pham Thi Hoai, Nhat Linh, Khai Hung, Pham Duy and several dozens more.

USING THE WIKI

To read the wiki, use the navigation tools on the left-hand side. The box titled "readers" offers five tools for selecting articles to read. You may also use the "search" function at the top of the column.

To contribute a new article or to revise an existing one, first register as a user at the top of the screen. Then use the tools in the "contributors" box.

The box marked "wikiviet" leads to pages explaining funding, copyright and other details. On the front page, "Welcome to Wikivietlit" explains what we offer and what kinds of new articles we are looking for.

SPONSORS

Wikivetlit began with a Rockefeller Foundation partial post-doctoral fellowship of $5,000 awarded by the William Joiner Center at the University of Massachusetts to VNLP editor Dan Duffy. We continue as part of the operating expenses of VNLP.

VIET NAM LITERATURE PROJECT (VNLP) at www.vietnamlit.org

The Viet Nam Literature Project promotes Vietnamese literature in English translation, when necessary, in America and to the world. We do this to help teachers, students, and readers understand the social realities of the nation that has played so great a role in the life of the modern world, and to develop Vietnamese literature as a field of study in the United States. We further support the freedom and influence of Vietnamese writers by working for their public recognition.

Four programs fulfill these goals:

Website: representative works by Vietnamese authors with supporting materials for research and classroom use

Outreach: print newsletter, e-bulletins, and events

Speakers: VNLP authors and staff on campus

Promotion: nomination of VNLP authors to awards and honors, and referral to events and publications of other organizations
